Mangalore: Awareness Programme Marks International Day Against Drug Abuse

Mangalore, Jun 28: A public awareness programme was held at the Town Hall here on Monday June 27 on the occasion of ‘International Day Against Drug Abuse’ by Link Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts in association with ACCEPT Regional Resource Training Centre (RRTC) south zone Kerala, state department of women and child welfare, and union ministry of social justice and empowerment.

KPCC general secretary Ivan D’Souza and Block Education Officer (BEO) Dayavati were the chief guests on the occasion.

The former deputy mayor Judith Mascarenhas presided over the programme.

DUDC – Mangalore skills and livelihood expert Irene Rebello spoke on drug addiction and role of youth.

Mangalore–Manaswini director and Link Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts executive member Dr Ravish Tunga spoke on drug abuse and psychological impact.

Dr Satish Rao of Link Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts conducted the oath-taking ceremony with the youth.

Denis D’Silva welcomed the gathering.  Divakar Poojary proposed the vote of thanks.  Lydia Lobo compered the programme.

    A very needed and timely programme. It was good to involve the school children this time. In the drug abuse scenario, prevention works better than treatment. Keep up the good work. Congratulations to the link team!
