Kasargod: Yakshagana Stalwart, Lawyer, Dr Shankar Sheni, No More

Kasargod, Jun 28: Dr Shankar Sheni (57), a respected Yakshagana artiste, scholar, and advocate by profession, breathed his last in a private hospital in the town on Sunday June 26. He was the son of the grandsire of Yakshagana field, the late Sheni Gopalakrishna Bhat.

Dr Sheni is survived by wife, a son, and a daughter.

He had been suffering from certain health complications including diabetes since the last some years, and he was admitted into the hospital after his condition turned precarious a few days ago.

Sheni, youngest son of Sheni Gopalakrishna Bhat, was an amateur Yakshagana artiste, and was active in the fields of Talamaddale and Yakshagana performances by amateur artistes. He had served the government college here, as well as SDM Law College Mangalore, in the capacity of guest lecturer. He was a good orator, and was involved with pro-Kannada activities. He had written some works in English.
