Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Jul 14: The rains in the coast, which had lost their intensity during the last some days, returned with full glory on Wednesday July 13. While Mangalore, Udupi, Kundapur, Beltangady and Karkala taluks received widespread rains, Sullia taluk registered normal to good rains. Puttur and Bantwal taluks received some rains till afternoon, and good rains thereafter.

A youth drowned at Uppinakudru near Kundapur, after the boat he was riding capsized because of the wind and rain. The fisherman in question, Rajesh Mogaveera (25), a resident of Uppinakudru, was collecting seashells when tragedy struck. He was a bachelor, and has left behind parents, a brother, and a sister.

Fallen tree in Navoor, Sullia taluk, damaged three houses. A huge holy fig tree fell on the house of Krishnamurty from Mundaje Goremane in Beltangady taluk, causing damages. Fallen branches of the tree also damaged electric cables on Mundaje College Road. Sullia town experienced artificial floods caused by haphazard drainage work. Even low-lying roads in Mangalore were flooded, causing inconveniences to road users. At Ullal, sea erosion has worsened.

The coast received four to seven cms of rain on an average. The meteorological department has predicted heavy rains during the next two days. It expects rainfall of up to 65 mms during these two days. The department has also issued a warning to fishermen not to venture into the sea, as speeding winds are expected.
