Bangalore: Rohit Shetty's 'Singham' Draws Ire of Pro-Kannada Activists

Bangalore, Jul 23: Rohit Shetty's action flick 'Singham', starring Ajay Devgn, is in trouble over a dialogue which allegedly insults Kannadigas.

On Friday July 22 when the film was due for release, pro-Kannada activists across the state staged protests demanding a stay on the film's screening until and unless the dialogue was removed.

The protests were led by members of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) in places like Belgaum, Hubli, Bidar and Bangalore. The activists went on a rampage tearing down the film's posters and in Bangalore.

Police commissioner Mirji then issued orders to stop the screening in several theatres before the situation could go out of hand.

The protestors alleged that Ajay Devgn, who plays the central role of Singham, makes a reference to Kannadigas as 'dogs'.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce asssured the police commissioner that the dialogue would be muted or deleted and urged the resumption of the screenings.

    It is not correct call rohit & Prakash raj as kannidigas they are tuluvas. How can all people living in karnataka becomes kannadigas!

    mr kannadiga, in your user name only there is kannadaow can u support this type of vulgar words in movies,, this hurt the sentimens of all kannadigas...rohit shetty being a kannadiga should have delt this matter before the release. well done KRV. jai karnataka..

    Right action by KRV against such non sense things. Any film should uphold the Indian culture, language, heritage, but not spoiling the communal harmony passing message like this. These directors/actors should be stopped from making films. The censor board should take the action against the director and actor.

    We kannadigas are great, we are proud of ourselves. Other language films should be banned in Karnataka if they are creating this kind of honchos. Don't watch this movie, boycott this film in Karnataka.
