Udupi: High tension electricity tower in danger of collapsing

Udupi, Jul 24: A high tension electricity pole which carries 110 KV KPTCL overhead line at Karvalu area is on the verge of collapsing. Landslide has occurred on the hill on which the tower is erected. Officials say that necessary precautions are taken.

If this tower falls, there are possibilities of electricity getting affected in Manipal, Brahmavar, Kunjibettu and Udyavar areas. Officials said that, as a precautionary measure, old line of Manipal-Hiriadka is activated and installation is in progress from Sunday itself.

Mescom officials and police of Manipal have inspected the spot on Sunday.

Due to the incessant rains that are lashing the district since two days, Mescom suffered losses of Rs 30 to 40 lac. Around 230 electricity poles and 14 transformers are damaged according to the information provided by Mescom superintendent Dinesh Upadhya.
