Bantwal, July 25: Due to incessant rains during the last five days there was widespread destruction in the taluk and the water level of the Netravati river had breached the danger mark of 8.5 meters. Rainwater had entered more than 15 houses. However, on Tuesday, the rainfall and the water level of the river have receded.
The wall of the house of Rohini at B Muda village collapsed folliowing which she has been accommodated at her sister's house.
A coconut tree fell on the shed of Peter at Narikombu village. Mud caved in behind Mohammed Shafi's house at Kumpanamajalu of Pudu village. A tree also fell on the house of Baby Moolya at Nanya of Pudu village. The wall of the house of Jameela at Pudu village collapsed and so did the tiles fall from the roof.
The temporary service road at Kalladka which was a make-shift arrangement due to four-lane construction of the national highway construction got washed away completely due to the heavy downpour. Water flowed on the road in the absence of drainage.
The inferior quality of the tar road work during the last two years has made the lives of commuters using the road miserable. People are tired of sludge and potholes on the road. They have suffered also due to dust in the summer and sludge and potholes during the monsoons.
