Media Release

Mangaluru, Aug 2: Mangalore Institute of Oncology (MIO) Specialty Cancer Hospital, Pumpwell, in collaboration with the Karnataka Forest Department, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts participated in the Vanamahotsava-Sahasra Vrakshabiyana on July 29.

Speaking at the event's closing ceremony, DK district surveillance officer Dr Navin Chandra Kulal said, "We are destroying the environment without realizing it. Trees are disappearing, we are the cause for environmental imbalance. I like MIO for its concern for the environment. Government departments are doing many complementary programs. If every individual, institution and society join hands, a green environment can be created," he said.

Speaking as the chief guest at the event, Karnataka Pollution Control Board regional officer Dr Ravi D S spoke about the need for an organic environment for the survival of living beings. "Trees provide us with oxygen to breathe. But we are constantly committing atrocities on nature, it is imperative to stop this," he said.

As the presiding officer, senior surgical oncologist of MIO, Dr Rohan Chandra Gatti spoke about how trees are disappearing as cities grow. "If everyone does not have their own space to plant trees, at least protect the planted trees or leave them to their fate. Trees are in front of our eyes in the form of God, let us understand what we say from them," he said.

Actor Deepak Rai Panaje spoke about how green health is literally true. "The tree planting campaign is ongoing. The conclusion is just the end of this program. The MIO is doing nature-loving programs between their work and I am proud to be a part of the MIO. I am indebted to Dr Suresh Rao, director of MIO who gave me this opportunity."

The guests symbolically watered the trees to promote environmental awareness at the event. Chief operating officer Dr Lal Madathil welcomed the guests. Operation manager Raghavendra Singh proposed the vote of thanks. Rajesh Shetty was the programme coordinator.
