Bantwal, August 2: “Bantwal and Panemagalore block Congress severely condemns the recent gang rape of a Dalit girl in Vittal police station limits. Strict legal action should be taken against all the accused,” urged former minister B Ramanath Rai.

Speaking at a press conference called at block Congress office, he said that gang rape is the crime which makes a civilised society bow its head in shame. “BJP and Sangh Parivar organisation workers who should protect the society are seen indulging in moral policing at various places. Their leaders who should have condemned this incident are quiet. Such incidents inspire unrest. Therefore the police should take strict action against such anti-social elements,” he urged.

“There was moral policing against a police constable and media representatives on B C Road recently. It is the responsibility of the police and us, the members of civil society to ensure that such incidents do not occur again,” he said.

Campaign against drugs

“Rising consumption of drugs has increased the illegal activities in society. There is a need to hold an awareness campaign against them at Bantwal taluk and the district. A programme will be planned after obtaining cooperation from various organisations,” he said.

Bantwal block Congress president Baby Kunder, Panemangalore block Congress president Sudeep Kumar, former member of zilla panchayat Prakash
Shetty Thumbe, taluk panchayat former vice-president Abbas Ali, former president of municipal council Mohammed Sharif, Mohammed Nawaz, Sadashiva Bangera, Balakrishna Alva, Suresh Zora and others were present.
