Mangalore, Aug 9: It was a memorable day for a group of sixty students as they donned the role of paddy cultivators and tried their hands at farming.

The programme was organised for the NSS students of Narayan Guru Government Pre-University College under the aegis of National Greenery Unit at Haleyangady. Sudesh Kumar, proprietor of Pooja Sounds, Haleyangady sponsored the outing.

Jyoti K, Kannada lecturer of the College, urged the students to take an interest in paddy cultivation as it is the staple food of people in the coastal district.

The students worked hand in hand with the farmers, learning and experiencing the nuances of paddy cultivation.

Padupanambur gram panchayat president Vinod Salian presided over the programme.

College principal Girija Menasinakai inaugurated the programme.

College development committee vice-president Vasant Bernad, and Kallapu Veerabhadra Mahammayi temple managing trustee president Pitamber Shettigar were present.

NSS programme officer Premanat welcomed the gathering. National Greenery unit officer Balasundar proposed the vote of thanks.

Nice pictures!!This is first time I see this kind of students turn farmers, here in USA 95% of students do this kind of job or washing cars or working in warehouse/super markets to earn their pocket money, after all work is worship..

Good to see the students work in the fields.Good work by the Organizers. It would be more benificial if they would be made to use modern equipments. The Farmers should form cooperatives and use Modern Technologies so that they can cultivate more land with the limited labour.

ONE OF THE MOST INSPIRING PICTURES
I have seen in recent times. Every
young person in India must have a
    reformed attitude when they
come across with jobs. Even if
we are highly educated, we must be
happy to do any job which will
    make the environment better or
feeding more people. If the children at home will help their parents to do certain jobs, it will reduce much tensions at home and the parents will be happy too.
    HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS. LET THIS
BE THE BEGINNING OF A NOBLE REVOLUTION IN INDIA.

Very good move I think if the Schools are given Holiday during the paddy planting and harvesting season it will be a great help to the farmer's. Schools should be started one week early after the summer vacation and this one week can be given holiday during paddy planting and harvesting. If all the schools join together it might take one or two day's for the coastal area to be planted. As we all know it's very difficult to get people to the farming land as all the youngter's have gone in search of good jobs after education, other's who are school out's are either doing some goodagiri or woking for the underworld Don's, or are upto some mischief into the society by the help of some organization's who will supply them with free boose and food. Most of our relatives have stopped paddy cultivation and planted areca and coconut due to lack of labour.

Thanks to Narayan Guru Government Pre-University College and its Team Members. Such thinking is very rare. If colleges in Karnataka initiate such programs our poor farmers will be happy for ever and very soon Karnataka will be Ramaraja. Once again thanks to the Lecturer who proposed this action.

    GOOD STARTS!!!
we know very soon the whole world will face shortage of food .( mainly) shelter, water problems, etc…Firstly we have to give importance to food storage, and water. Still we are sleeping. Probably mayan calendar, kaliyug, and even the science ( earth magnetosphere, solar flares, Robots using for wars) says there will disasters on December 21 , 2012.
Haleyangadi students has taken good steps . Definitely a great job. We read in daiji last week STUDENTS conducts SEMINARS AND discussion.PRACTICALLY? My opinion is first agriculture . Naturally all farmers keeps kumki land ( just like forests) for manure the fields and gardens .

Heartiest congratulations to all those who organised this event. I am sure the students must have experienced and enjoyed the entire session. It must have been also a blessing to the farming community as there is shortage of labourers in agriculture. Many fields are vacant for lack of labourers. I suggest that these students be taken again to see the progress and also while harvesting. Then they will have a complete knowledge of this cultivation. If this can be done by all other schools, it will boost the morals of the farmers.

Dear friends, this is one of the best initiatives taken by the Institute and reminded me of my own past (7-9AM in the paddy field and then to the college). It is wonderful to give our younger generation a feel/glimpse of how our ancestors lived. Well done organizers.
