Kundapur: Gopal Kharvi bags gold medals in national sports swimming championship

Kundapura, Aug 29: Gopal Kharvi Kodi- Kanyana, a resident of Gundmi who represented India in the International sports championship swimming competitions held by South Asian Federation of Al Sports Safas at Bhutan has won gold medals in 100 metres freestyle and 200 metres freestyle swimming.

Gopal Kharvi had trained at the Udupi Ajjarkad swimming pool. He had achieved the Guinness record by tying his hands and legs and had swam for 3.71 kilometres in 2013.

Indian and American universities have felicitated him with the national and international Best Sports Achiever awards and Certificate of Excellence award.

Gopal Kharvi has also received state-level Karnataka Rajyotsava award and Karnataka Kreedarathna award. The Karnataka state government which considered his achievements has included a lesson on his life in the ninth standard Konkani textbook.
