Mangalore: Rains Waning, Heavy Rain Predicted

Mangalore, Aug 10: On Tuesday August 9, the rainfall was considerably less in both Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts. Most of the places basked in sunshine during the day with short spells of showers in between, and temperature rose. By evening, clouds gathered and there was some rain at night.

The administration is now faced with the task of repairing bridges and rural roads, which have suffered extensive damages due to rain.

The house of Ponjila Akku in Garadady village, Beltangady taluk, crashed to the ground due to rain, and the revenue officials have estimated the loss at Rs 53,000. Five houses in Vittal Padnoor, Kolnad and Punacha villages suffered damages due to heavy rains on Monday. Losses in this connection have been put at Rs 1.4 lac. Sea erosion has intensified at Kody Bengre near Kemmannu in Udupi. Some coconut trees have got uprooted there, while several more are facing the risk of getting washed away.

The meteorological department has predicted heavy rains in coastal Karnataka during the next two days.
