Udupi, Aug 31: Supermoon is going to be spotted four times this year. People have already witnessed two on July 3 and August 1. The other two will appear on August 31 and September 29.

The supermoon of August 31 has special significance as the moon will be closest to earth on that day. It will be at a distance of 357344 km from earth.

On July 3, the moon was at a distance of 361800 km and on August 1 it was at 357530 km from earth. On September 29 it will be at a distance of 361552 as per the information given by Dr A P Bhat, astronomer of Udupi.

On August 31, as the moon is closest to earth among the four occasions of 2023, it will be visible 14 times bigger than usual. It will also have 25 times more brightness than the usual full moon. It seems this moon has arrived to increase the celebration of Indians who are just basking in the success of Chandrayana 3 mission on moon.

The speciality is that there are two supermoon occasions in August. This is really a joy to Indians says Dr Bhat.
