Kundapur: MLA Kiran Kumar Kodgi presides over Varahi irrigation project progress review meet

Kundapura, Sep 1: A progress review meeting of the Varahi irrigation project was presided over by Kundapura MLA A Kiran Kumar Kodgi. The MLA directed
the officers to complete the project on time.

The officials who gave details of the progress said that the project envisages irrigating a total of 15,702 hectares of area in Udupi and Kundapura taluks. “The revised cost of the project is Rs 178.50 crores. Irrigation is being provided to 610 hectares Achukattu area at the end of August, 2023  out of which 15,702 hectares has been included in the project,” an official said. 

"Currently diversion veer, Varahi right deck, ordinary canal chain, works till 44.35 kilometres have been completed. The estimate for distribution canals 29, 32, 45, 46 and 47 are being prepared," the official said.

The MLA said that Rs 54.77 crores for Varahi canal, Rs 21 crore for tank, Rs 6 crore for SCP, SGP work and Rs 1 crore for survey together amounting to Rs 81.88 crore had been approved during the term of the previous government. “As the current government has withheld the amount, we will have to wait until further orders,” he said.

Varahi department officers were present.
