Udupi: Accused acquitted in POCSO case

Udupi, Sep 2: District additional and session (POCSO) fast track special court acquitted two accused in case of sexual harassment of a minor girl.

Sarfuddin and his sister Shabnaz, residents of Guddeangadi of Udyavar are the accused who got acquitted.

Aunt of victim girl had filed complaint in November 2020 in Kaup police station accusing Sarfuddin of sexually harassing her 17-year-old niece. Accordingly, Sarfuddin was arrested. Later, they arrested Shabnaz also for cooperating in the act.

The police who investigated the matter submitted chargesheet to the court in January 2021. The court which conducted inquiry acquitted the accused and said that the prosecution has failed to prove the guilt on the accused and there is a doubt whether the said incident has taken place or not.

Dinesh Hegde Ulepadi argued for accused Sarfuddin and Shantaram Shetty was the lawyer for Shabnaz.
