Mangaluru, Sep 8: “The report of a study conducted by Neeri organisation
about pollution caused by large-scale industries near Mangaluru has reached me only yesterday,” said Vidhana Parishat government assurances committee president B M Farook.
“Discussions about Cancer and other illnesses caused by large-scale industries were held in Vidhana Parishat. We had asked them to conduct a study during our visit last time. The primary report should have been produced in May and the final report in August. The final report has been received now. It needs to be inspected after this,” he said speaking in the news conference held on Friday.
“Mangaluru is facing land, water and air pollution similar to Bidar, Peenya and Jigani. HPCL is constructing a cave for storing LPG, similar to crude oil storage. It is said that two more such plants will come up. It is a warning bell for the coast which has an international border. Missile attacks will be like nitrogen bomb explosions. If the matters discussed in Vidhana Parishat are not implemented immediately, those will be submitted to the assurance committee after a month. The committee consisting of nine members holds meetings every week in Bengaluru and solves the issues through officials. 85% of the assurances were fulfilled during the last term and 2,000 assurances were submitted to us during the current term,” he said.
Committee member Dr Talavaru Sabannam, joint director of commerce and industries department, Gokuldas were present.
