Udupi: Boat Capsizes - Two Fishermen Feared Drowned

Udupi, Aug 13: After a fishing boat capsized near the estuary of Malpe on Friday August 12, four among the six fishermen on board swam to safety.  Two are feared drowned.

The boat in question, bearing the name, ‘Tirumalesh’, belonging to Pushpa Shashidhar, had ventured out for fishing on Friday morning. As soon as it reached the estuary a short distance away, the boat overturned. The boat had six fishermen, Pandurang and Manjunath from Byndoor, Ramachandra, Damodar, Mahadev, as well as Ramesh Ganapati Harikantra from Manki near Honnavar.

Pandurang and Manjunath reached the shore first and filed a report about the missing fishermen at the local police station. By Friday evening, Ramachandra and Damodar also reached the shore. Search for the remaining fishermen, Mahadev (28), and Ramesh Ganapati Harikantra (19), is on.

Reportedly, the boat has suffered a loss of Rs 35 lac in the incident.
