Mangalore, Aug 14: “Though the DK district is popularly labelled as district of genius people, justice for women is still a daydream”, said National Women’s Front national secretary Shahida Tasneem.

She was delivering her presidential address at the protest meet organized by the NWF with the support of Social Democratic Party of India in front of the DC’s office on Saturday August 13.

The protestors urged Panjimoger’s dual murder of mother daughter to be solved immediately.

Shahida said that the police investigating the Panjimoger murder case should act with responsibility without bowing to any influence or pressure. She warned of intensifying the protest in case the police fail to arrest the real culprits within 10 days of time.

Providing few incidences of abuse on women she said, efficient police officer Bharathi has been transferred for no reason. A few days ago at a protest by street vendors a women vendor Shobha was assaulted by a traffic police officer, she noted.

SDPI DK district committee president Jalil Krishnapura said that in the state and district in particular there were many untraced women murder cases. He said SDPI supports the fight of NWF.

SDPI DK district chief secretary Akbar Ali said that local people though protested, the police response seems to be poor. There is need for women to be united for the cause, he stated.

NCHRO state convener Mohammed Kakkinje, SDPI Kavoor zonal committee president Mohammed Rafiq Kuloor, Arif Marakada were present. NWF district president Shameena welcomed. Bantwal zonal president Shameena Manchi compered the programme and delivered vote of thanks.

After the protest, a memorandum was submitted to DC addressed to the governor, CM, Home Minister and the police commissioner.
