Mangalore: Thousands Attend ‘Konkani Recognition Day’ at Kirem Parish

Mangalore, Aug 17: The parish council of Our Lady of Remedies, Kirem, organized ‘Konkani Recognition Day’ celebrations on Monday August 15 at the parish auditorium.
 
Kirem parish priest Fr Paul Pinto presided over the programme.


 

Fr Pinto, in his presidential address, called on the parishioners to work for the betterment of Konkani with great affection in accordance with the culture of this rich language which prides itself on having a great heritage.  “Dedication should find its base in love and harmony with the community brethrens,” said Fr Pinto.
 
Konkani Prachar Sanchalan chairman Roy Castelino, in his chief guest’s address, appreciated the parishioners for organizing ‘Konkani Recognition Day’ that will lay special emphasis on language for posterity.
 
Pompeii Pre-University College principal Fr Jerome D’Souza and Fr John Noronha were the guests of honour.
 
The parishs’ student toppers in academics were felicitated on the same occasion.
 
Kirem parish council vice-president Robert Rodrigues welcomed the gathering. Anitha D’Souza compered the programme while Burton Sequeira proposed the vote of thanks.
 
Various entertainment programmes were held as part of the cultural programme by the parishioners.
 
Traditional delicacies were shared by the parishioners and over a thousand people were present on the occasion.
