Bengaluru, Sep 22: Taking potshots at the Siddaramaiah-led Congress regime and its 5 poll gurantees, former chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday demanded a 'Water Guarantee' from the government.

Addressing media persons after participating in a meeting of party leaders of Cauvery basin regions at the BJP office in Bengaluru, he attacked the Congress government for its flippant and non-serious approach on handling of the Cauvery water issue and warned that Swamijis, farmers and citizens of Bengaluru will rise in revolt against the government for its inept handling.

The BJP leader said Siddaramaiah and deputy chief minister D K Shivakumar,
who is handling the water resources portfolio, have bungled in the handling of the Cauvery issue from the beginning.

He accused the government of being responsible for being compelled to release 7.5 tmcft of water to Tamil Nadu due its inept handling of the Cauvery issue before the Supreme Court.

He said the people and farmers have been kept in the dark about the government’s next course of action. "BJP has taken the issue seriously and is ready to launch an agitation in all the Cauvery basin districts,’’ he warned.

Bommai lashed out at the government for wasting its time on the guarantees and continuously setting new conditions. The deputy chief minister harps on Brand Bengaluru and is silent on the drinking water issue to Bengaluru.

The Cauvery tribunal had asked the government to keep 4.5 tmcft of water for meeting the drinking water needs of Bengaluru. But the Congress government does not speak about that at all. Tamil Nadu has utilised excess water to illegally extend its agriculture. However, the government is silent on the issue, he said.

Tamil Nadu is likely to get rains in the coming days and this point must be brought to the notice of the Supreme Court, he said.

The BJP leader attacked the government for criticising the Centre to cover up for its failures. He said the party will hold a protest at the Mysuru Bank Circle on Saturday and will also launch protests in all the 28 Lok Sabha constituencies.

To a question on whether the government should bring an ordinance against the release of water, Bommai pointed out that an ordinance brought in the past was thrown out by the apex court. The government must immediately file a review petition before the Supreme Court, which might be considered, he said.

He said the BJP high command will discuss the issue of BJP-JD(S) alliance for the parliamentary elections and they will take a final decision.

Question is right. You can distribute printed notes. What will you do about nature? When you promised everything on the face of this earth and succeeded in fooling Karnataka electorate, why not take this challenge and solve it? On the other hand, we must be cognizant of the fact that BJP Govt could not do much either. Anyway, Siddu, at helm need to answer when he throws stupid question to opposition in Bangalore and ruling party in Center.

Mayya, can you also please enlighten us, why the power generation is reduced in Karnataka for the last 4 years and why inferior quality coal is provided by the central government for the last 4 years. Did the government paid the same rate for that inferior quality coal supplied by the centre? Why inferior coal is supplied to Karnataka when there are so many MPs and ministers from Karnataka from the ruling segani party? Don't they have back bone to questions or they are given some kickbacks? WHY are you silent in these issues that pertaining to Karnataka?

Bomma thinks Congress can control the rain and water. You should have sorted this problem while you were in power. Don’t blame others for your failures.

Water guarantee was not specified in the election manifesto. Speak to God to pour out rains from heaven. Prahalad Joshi is expert in rains so he spoke to Narendra and due to G420 he was busy and deprived of water talks.

POLITICIANS AS IS THEIR HABIT PLAY POLITICS -- BUT THIS WAS THE SC VERDICT AND QUICK RECAP -- The SC order on Cauvery waters sharing was pronounced by a bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices Amitava Roy and A M Khanwilkar, which had on September 20 last year reserved the verdict on the appeals filed by Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala against the 2007 award of the tribunal. Karnataka had a share of 270 tmcft of Cauvery water. This was increased to 284.75 tmcft. Tamil Nadu will get 404.25 tmcft, which will be 14.75 tmcft less than what was allotted by the tribunal in 2007--- SO OVERALL AS PER SC ORDER -- KARNATAKA GOT ENHANCED SHARE -- AS COMPARED TO WHAT THE TRIBUNAL ORDERED -- AT THAT TIME IT WAS A SMALL VICTORY -- FOR KARNATAKA getting enhanced share -- SO LIVING IN THIS GREAT COUNTRY -- INDIA -- A REPUBLIC -- FEDERAL SYSTEMS -- RULE OF LAW -- it is duty bound to follow -- COURT verdicts -- OF COURSE NOW CLIMATE CHANGE -- DROUGHT ETC THERE ARE NEW CHALLENGES -- SO ALL HAVE TO -- meaning political parties -- PUT HEADS TOGETHER TO SEE BEST OF THE WORST POSSIBLE SCENARIOS -- water conservation -- loss of forest cover -- environment -- not contribute to global warming -- other water conservation methods -- etc --to adapt for future -- ALSO TO NOTE LOT OF WATER FLOWS INTO THE SEA --
