Udupi: Buckets distributed to fish buyers on account of Gandhi Jayanti

Udupi, Oct 2: City municipality and Catholic Sabha Udupi distributed buckets to fish buyers instead of polythene bags on account of Gandhi Jayanti on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion Rayappa, city municipality commissioner, said, “All are using plastic bags to buy things. That too fish buyers are using plastic bags more. This is creating plastic waste. So we are giving plastic buckets.”















President of Catholic Sabha said, “Our organization has undertaken various environment-friendly programmes from some years. This year we have taken up this project. Plastic bags are not biodegradable. So it is better to use environment-friendly bags.”

Alphonse D’Costa also spoke on the occasion. Ronald Almeida, Valerian Fernandes, Dr Gerald Pinto, Jerald Rodrigues, Melwyn Aranha, Leslie Cornelio, Juliet D’Souza, Sneha, Giridhar, Baby Salian, Joseph Rebello and others were present.
