Udupi: Civic Committee initiates cleaning movement by painting rusted beams of Indrali bridge

Udupi, Oct 2: In response to prime minister Narendra Modi's call for a cleanliness drive, the Udupi civic committee has launched a cleanliness drive by painting the rusted beams of the Indrali bridge in mock protest against the halted construction work.

The construction work on the Indrali-Udupi-Manipal highway has been at a standstill for the past five years, causing the half-finished bridge's beams to deteriorate. In a symbolic act of cleaning, they were painted.

The tools have rusted due to the suspension of work on the Indrali railway bridge, leading to an increase in accidents in the area. Girder work on the Indrali railway bridge is currently underway in Hubballi, with expectations of completion and installation beginning by December.

Nityananda Olakadu, the convener of the civic committee, who has grown weary of complaints about the problem, has appealed to the central government to take notice of this unique symbolic cleaning effort and expedite the construction work.
