Kolalgiri, Udupi emerge as champions in diocese level cricket, throwball tournament

Udupi, Oct 3: Kolalgiri and Udupi church emerged as champions in Udupi diocese level cricket and throwball tournament organized by St Vincent de Paul Church, Katpadi on the occasion of Platinum jubilee year celebrations. The cricket and throwball tournaments were held on October 1 at SVS Palligudde ground, Katapadi.  

In the throwball category, Mother of Sorrows Church, Udupi, emerged as the winners, with St Maria Goretti Church, Hirgana, as the runner-up. In cricket, Sacred Heart Church, Kolalagiri, clinched the championship title, with St Xavier's Church, Udyavar securing the runner-up position.

During the evening's prize distribution ceremony, Msgr Fr Ferdinand Gonsalves, the Udupi diocese vicar general, presented awards and delivered a speech highlighting the significance of sports in society. He emphasized that sports not only bring honour but also contribute to the physical and mental well-being of individuals. He encouraged everyone to excel in sports and face challenges without fear, as success often follows those who fearlessly participate in sports. He also mentioned the numerous benefits associated with sports participation.

Dr Roshan D'Souza, the chancellor of Udupi Diocese, commended the organizers for their successful execution of the sports event.

The event was attended by notable figures such as Ronson D'Souza, the director of Holy Cross Students' Home Prameela Jathanna, president of Kote gram panchayat and Fr Rajesh Pasanna, parish priest Katapadi church.

Anitha Alva extended a warm welcome to the guests, while Wilfred Lobo expressed word of  gratitude. Frieda Pinto announced the list of winners.
