Udupi: Deputy commissioner addresses concerns of Malekudia community

Udupi, Oct 9: Deputy Commissioner Dr K Vidyakumari visited members of the Malekudia community residing in the Western Ghats forests on Saturday. She walked a distance of three to four kilometers to provide essential supplies to the communities in Pitabailu, Tingala Makki, and Thengamaru gramas.

During her visit, she met with Lakshman Gowda, a specially-abled individual, and collected information on government food distribution. She instructed officials to provide assistance for house repairs and inspected ongoing work on the bridge, including the Kindi dam. She assured the community that the construction work would be completed promptly.

While initiating the turbine of a mini-electric project to provide electricity to houses in Pitabail village, deputy commissioner Vidyakumari lost her balance and fell. She climbed the hill, examined the water source, and ordered its improvement.

Emphasizing the importance of education for children in the forests, she encouraged Pramila, the daughter of Pitabail resident Narayana Gowda, to continue her education beyond the pre-university course.

Zilla panchayat CEO Prasanna H inaugurated a 24-hour water supply through a newly installed pipeline costing Rs 1.5 lakhs. Deputy Commissioner Vidyakumari distributed job cards for employment guarantees to local residents and provided information about permanent projects, including road construction, cow sheds, toilet pits, areca, and coconut gardens, fruit tree gardens, and foot bridges, urging the community to make the most of these opportunities.

CEO Prasanna H encouraged residents to apply for toilet construction through the panchayat, secure funding, and proceed with the construction.

Present at the visit were Nalpadu gram panchayat president Navin Kumar, Kundapur sub-divisional officer Rashmi S, Backward Class Development Project coordinator Doodpir, Hebri taluk tahsildar Purandara, panchayat development officer Sheetal, assistant executive Engineer Sadananda, Engineer Madhugowda, and various department officials.
