Kundapur: MLC Manjunath Bhandary visits spot of fire tragedy at Gangolli

Kundapur, Nov 14: “I have inspected the destruction due to fire mishap at Gangolli. Boat owners have suffered huge losses in it. I will speak to the chief minister and minister of fisheries and urge the government to provide compensation from the chief minister’s fund and discretionary fund”, said MLC Manjunath Bhandary.

He was speaking to news reporters after visiting and inspecting the spot of fire mishap at the area of boat anchorage, Manganese Road near Gangolli port on Tuesday. “Boat owners have incurred complete loss. They need to be suitably compensated. The deputy commissioner and assistant commissioner have submitted details of loss to the chief minister. I will visit state chief minister Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar and explain the matter to them. The minister of fisheries has already visited them and said that he will be in constant communication with them”, he said.

Fishermen are going through a hard life. Their lives become pitiable after such disasters. Hundreds of workers who depend on fishing are facing unstable conditions besides owners of those nine boats. The government is for the owners who lost their boats. Congress party will respond to their plight”, he said.

“There is demand from local people for a fire brigade here. I will speak with the home minister for a temporary fire station unit for now and permanent fire brigade station later”, he said.

District Congress president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, party leader M A Gafoor, block Congress president Arvind Poojary, Hariprasad Shetty Kanmakki, Pradeep Kumar Shetty, Dinesh Hegde Molahalli, Babu Hegde, Sampigedi Sanjiva Shetty, Udayakumar Shetty Vandse, Sharath Kumar Shetty Balikere, Sadashiva Shetty, Prasanna Kumar Shetty, Udaya Poojary, Manjula Devadiga, Durgaraja Poojary, Surendra Kharvi, Mujashid, Santhosh and local fishermen leaders were present.
