Mangaluru, Nov 20: Gilbert D’Souza, a resident of Pakkalapade Meramajalu has shown an exemplary humanitarian gesture in constructing a house for one Chandrahas.
Gilbert, an NRI who is working in the USA, is always in the forefront in helping the needy. Chandrahas, a resident of Pakkalapade, was not economically stable and mentally ill for which he was receiving treatment.
Chandrahas is married and has a daughter. His only desire was to have a house of his own. After lot of struggle in the initial stages, managing his health, family and work, Chandrahas managed to construct a house. He was working in a hotel near Farangipete.
Chandrahas somehow managed to start the construction but was unable to complete it due to financial issues. Chandrahas dropped his plan to continue the construction work due to insufficient money. In addition, his health condition started deteriorating.
The half-built house was untouched for more than six years. Looking at the condition of the unfinished structure and the struggle of Chandrahas, the locals decided to help him to complete the construction.
Yogish, the former gram panchayat president, brought the issue to the notice of Gilbert and requested him to help Chandrahas.
Gilbert, who was residing in the USA, coordinated and decided to take up the initiative to complete the house for Chandrahas. Gilbert then came to India for the same purpose. Even locals and the church committee donated financially and helped Chandrahas and his family.
The construction work was in full swing in the last two months under Gilbert’s leadership who was the hope for Chandrahas and his family. The house warming ceremony of Chandrahas’ newly-built abode was held on November 18.
Gilbert’s initiative and other donors need to be lauded for their noble gesture which helped Chandrahas and his family have a house of their own.
