Mangalore, Sep 9: Members of Koraga community staged dharna in front of the office of the district deputy commissioner here from 11 am to 5 pm on Thursday September 8, demanding sanction of 2.5 acres of land to each of the Koraga families as per recommendations of Dr Mohammed Pir report, and to implement other welfare programmes that have not yet been implemented.

The dharna was organized under the aegis of Karnataka-Kerala Union of Koraga Development Organizations.

The participants said that the removal of the post of taluk level tribal inspectors under Integrated Tribal Development Programme has been done away with, and they find it hard to contact district level officials for their work. They pointed out that the post of district level tribal development officer is also vacant now, and the previous incumbent in that post had defrauded the government to the tune of several lacs of rupees, because of which Koraga community has suffered heavily.  President of the union, Sushila Nada, criticized the government for stopping the scheme of providing nutritious food to tribals during monsoon months since June last.

The protestors later sent their memorandum to the Chief Minister through the deputy commissioner. District president of the union, K Ramesh Gundavu, office bearers, Gokuldas and Balraj were present.
