Veteran Tamil Actress Gandhimathi Passes Away at 65

Chennai, Sep 10: The comedian and mother figure of Tamil film industry, veteran actress Gandhimathi passed away early on Friday September 9 at her residence in Vadapalani.

Gandhimathi, 65, was reportedly suffering from cancer. She was cremated later on Friday.

Gandhimathi had acted in many movies like '16 Vayathinile', 'Karagattakaran', 'Manickam', 'Walter Vetrivel' and 'Chinna Thambi Periya Thambi'. She later moved on to working for television serials. She used to act in the Tamil serial 'Pondatti Thevai' which aired on Sun TV.

Many other stars from the industry have expressed their grief over the loss. Among them co-star and friend Radha Ravi said, "To me, she was not just a colleague. She was like a member of the family. Jayakanthan, the late SS Chandran, Gandhimathi and I were all friends.” Several people from the Tamil film and television industry paid their last respects all through the day.

Gandhimathai is survived by her sons Balasubramaniam and Dheenadayalan who are both adopted.

    RIP. She is one of my fav actress. The way she talk and smile. It's just beautiful. Sad that she left us.
