Mangalore: Latest 1.5T MRI Machine Launched at KMC Hospital

Mangalore, Sep 10: The latest 1.5 Tesla Seimens Avanto Magnetic Resonance Imaging machine and the GE Brightspeed Multislice CT machine was inaugurated in Department of Radiodiagnosis and Imaging at KMC Hospital, here on on Saturday September 10.

The machienes were inaugurated by J Krishna Palemar, Minister for Ecology, Enviornment, Port and Inland water transport of the Karnataka government and Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha).

 Maj Gen (Retd) Dr G Rajagopal AVSM, dean of Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, gave the inaugural address and stated that modern facilities are immensely required in our country for better treatment purposes and we are very glad that we can bring such facilities within the reach of people in and around Mangalore. Dr HS Ballal spoke on the advancements being made in the imaging technology worldwide and how this technology helps in early diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
 
J Krishna Palemar and Nalin Kumar Kateel congratulated the Manipal group on making such facilities available to the society under one roof. J Krishna Palemar stated that MC Hospital has always provided best services to the society and is undoubtedly one of the best organized Hospitals in the city, providing the best treatment and facilities to their patients.
 
The latest 1.5 Tesla Seimens Avanto Magnetic Resonance Imaging machine which is imported from Germany is state-of-the-art equipment which is capable of delivering high quality images for patient management. Other benefits of this system - faster imaging, no claustrophobia is caused to the patients, whole body imaging, TIM - whole spine and body, ideal in uncooperative patients and children, latest imported software, high quality joint imaging, spectroscopy - (molecular imaging for tumors), abdominal imaging in renal failure, non invasive vascular imaging.
 
 
The GE Brightspeed Multislice CT machine with pitch booster technology aids in rapid scanning with minimal radiation exposure. This machine is imported from USA with all the latest software and technology. The benefits of MDCT - GE Bright Speed is that the scanning process is very fast, whole body imaging can be done in a short time, it is ideal for vascular imaging, high quality reconstructed images in all planes, high resolution images of small parts like middle and inner ear, 3D reconstruction for bones and in trauma cases, used for cardiac screening and endoluminal Imaging.
 
Dr Ajith Mahale, who proposed the vote-of thanks, also stated that KMC Hospital is the only place in this district with the availability of a wide panel of highly skilled and experienced fulltime male and female radiologists, technicians and other support staffs and facilities required for treating emergency cases – 24 / 7.
 
Dr Sonali Ullal, Associate Professor of Deparment of Radiadiagnosis and Imaging, KMC Hospital, anchored the program.
