Punjab, Jan 12: The story of Rukmani Riar, who started her academic journey as a backbencher during primary education, is truly inspiring. She defied expectations with her unwavering determination and successfully cleared the formidable UPSC, achieving an outstanding All India Rank of 2.

Rukmani faced early setbacks, unable to pass her sixth-grade exams, which initially instilled a fear of failure in her. However, instead of dwelling on the difficulties, she used the bitter experiences as lessons, learning not to complain about the situation but to actively seek ways to overcome challenges.

She pursued her graduation in Social Science from Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar and later earned her post-graduation degree from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences.

After completing her education, Rukmani engaged in internships with various NGOs. It was during this period that the idea of attempting the UPSC exams took root in her mind. Remarkably, she astounded everyone by securing the second rank in her very first attempt.

Rukmani advises aspiring UPSC candidates to extensively read newspapers and refer to NCERT books from the sixth grade to the twelfth grade. She emphasizes the importance of mock sessions in UPSC preparations, stating that these practice sessions significantly boost a candidate's confidence.
