Udupi, Jan 14: A woman in Manipal fell victim to a scam, losing lakhs of rupees after being enticed with a fake job offer.

Jasmi T K, hailing from Beltangady, was browsing Facebook in Vidyaratnanagar, Manipal, when she encountered an advertisement for an online job. Upon accepting the offer, she was contacted by an individual via Telegram, who instructed her to connect through the messaging app and shared a link.

Initially, Rs 150 and later Rs 200 were deposited into her account. On January 8, the fraudster, communicating through Telegram, provided details of a trading app. Following his instructions, Jasmi deposited Rs 1,88,000 into the bank account of Mahesh Jothe by January 11. Subsequently, the accused claimed he would refund the entire amount if she transferred an additional Rs 1,50,000.

A case has been registered at the Manipal police station, alleging that the accused defrauded Jasmi by manipulating her into transferring money through a fabricated trading app.
