Ailing Amar Singh Gets Relief Till Sep 19

New Delhi, Sep 15: Ailing former Samajwadi Party chief and Rajya Sabha member Amar Singh, who was arrested for his alleged role in the 2008 cash-for-votes scam has been granted an interim bail till September 19.

A Delhi court granted him the bail after AIIMS, where he is being treated for several ailments, submitted a medical report.

Special Judge Sangeeta Dhingra Sehgal asked Amar Singh to submit a surety bond on Rs 200,000 and told him not to tamper with evidence or leave the country in the meantime.

AIIMS has been asked to submit a medical report on his condition on a daily basis.

The 55-year-old Amar Singh is suffering from diabetes and had undergone a renal transplant in September 2009 and intestinal surgery 10 years ago. He is also a patient of hypertension, tuberculosis infection, chronic kidney disease and urinary tract infection.

Amar Singh was arrested Sep 6 for his alleged involvement in an attempt to bribe MPs ahead of the July 2008 parliament trust vote.

On July 22, 2008, three BJP MPs waved wads of currency notes in the Lok Sabha ahead of a trust vote, alleging they were given the money to vote in favour of the Manmohan Singh government.
