M'lore: Beware of Quacks! Seven Docs in City Suspected to be Fake

Mangalore, Oct 9:
It may be a noble profession, but sadly, some of the practicing 'doctors' seem to be stooping to ignoble levels to become what they are not.

In a revelation that raises serious questions regarding ethics and perhaps laxity of the health department and which may be of serious concern to people, especially patients, the state Ayush department has found that there are at least seven quacks (non-certified doctors) practicing in the city, in their bogus clinics.

The findings do not apply to allopathic doctors but to those practicing in the traditional and alternative health care sector (like ayurveda) which includes treatment through herbal medicines, biomedicines, acupuncture, massage, acupressure, nutritional therapy, and other similar methods.

In a recent scrutiny of records, the state Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy (AYUSH) department has cast serious doubts about the credentials of seven such practitioners in the city.

Taluk health officer Rathnakar said that several complaints were received about untrained doctors in the taluk, following which the administration decided to get to the heart of the matter. In accordance with the Karnataka Private Medical Establishment Act-2007, clinics and doctors, except allopathic practitioners, were asked to submit their credentials to the taluk health department. The deadline issued was October 24, 2010 which was later extended.

The credentials that were submitted were scrutinized by the taluk health department and passed on to the deputy commissioner (DC) for approval to grant them certificates.

Out of the 900 clinics in the taluk, only 400 were issued certificates, and another 100 applications were put under scrutiny. Out of these, seven clinics are suspected to be operating with fake credentials.

Details about doctors and clinics under suspicion were sent to Ayush department in Bangalore to make a thorough investigation into these cases. Though an official communication is yet to be made, it is believed that at least seven doctors in the city have been found to be quacks, sources said.

Rathnakar said that since no official announcement has been made by Ayush, the taluk health department is not in a position to take action against offenders. For the same reason, the details about the quacks have not been released to the media.

Readers, please note the article says about the individuals those practising the traditional and alternative health care sector (like ayurveda)and not the Allopatic doctors.

By the way, it has become a fashion that in these days Dentist, physio therapist and so on call themselves as doctors. But the real doctor is the one who is having a degree in medicine, the MBBS and above. Others just using the title for fame. The MBBS course has recently been added to the Guineas’  book of records as the most toughest educational course to study in the world.

With all my respect to the profession of Dentist or Physiotherapists, Doctor is the only one who can save life.........

To be cautious and to avoid these fake doctors one should give the clinic and doctors names and addresses. After all it is the question of life and death. How the patient will know who is fake and who is not?

Many a time, the patient is cured if has full confidence of the result on the so-called medicine he takes. Some decades ago, a quack in Ullal was selling mere water poured throgh co-conut cell to the container that the patient brought. People from Mangalore were approaching him in a beeline{though at that time, apart from Railway line, the other mode to cross river was boat} They found cure for their problems.

    WHOM TO AVOID-
If Any Ayurvedic Doctor suggests or dispenses Allopathic Medicines. As they get the medical info., from medical reps regarding the medicines which might become life threatening if taken(over-dosage).
If Any Doctor Claims Cure when no Medical Cure is Found till Date.
If any Doctor or Clinic Boasts or Advertises Cure or Control for Major diseases including Hair regrowth (for natural hair fall).
Major Diseases-Heart Attack,Cancer,Aids,Diabetes,BP- including Weight Reduction which always lasts a few months as it should be 24X7 effort from individual as it is required for his lifetime.
AVOID any Medically Eligible Doctors who Don't have Time for U, as they need numbers only to gain wealth. Or Suggests surgery or costly evaluating lab tests when other means are available as first step towards cure. Always take second or third opinion. Ask the doctor if u can take second opinion- if he gets angry when asked then he has more ego or something to hide.
These few things which can enhance your life expectency on this earth, while the list can be longer with each disease needing different approaches.
