Mangaluru: Water supply on alternate days to deal with scarcity

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, May 3: In response to rising temperatures and dwindling water levels across various taluks, the district administration has initiated water rationing in Dakshina Kannada. Effective May 5, rationing will commence due to the decreasing water levels in the Thumbay dam.Accordingly, water will be provided on alternate days in Mangaluru South and North.

Water will be supplied to Mangaluru South on odd days, starting from May 5, while Mangaluru North will receive water on even days, starting from May 6.

This measure comes amidst the scarcity of water and a shortfall in pre-monsoon rainfall. Last year, similar rationing measures were implemented during this period, which were lifted after the onset of rains in June.

Additionally, in Puttur taluk, water rationing has also been enforced. Areas within the jurisdiction of 12 gram panchayats, including Bannur, Aryapu, Nekkiladi, Keyyur, Kedambadi, Bajathur, and Olamogru, will receive water on alternate days as well.

So many buildings are given permission to construct. But occupancy in those bldgs are less. So many flats are vacant and some bldgs are just standing empty. Question here arises is is it metropolitan city to construct bldgs like this? Population is divided many settled abroad. Mostly students will not occupy one flat they share with 3,4,5. Then they leave and go. These builders r just investing money and shed showers of money rain to the muncipal authority for so many licenses and certificates. Poor localite will die without water. All big pipelines r diverted to the construction sites. They get water on regular basis but not the localites. Henceforth builders should be asked to get water through tankers paying by themselves till the bldg gets completed.
