Mangaluru, May 10: St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Mangaluru, celebrated its College Day on May 10 in the college campus. Prof B Ravi, director, National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal, was the chief guest on the occasion. Preetham Prince Pinto, founder & CEO, Waterz Goa & Tripzzie Dubai and an alumnus of batch of 2009, was the guest of honour. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, bishop of Mangalore and president of SJEC presided over the programme.
Dr Rio D’Souza, principal of SJEC presented the annual report of the college. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, director of SJEC welcomed the gathering to the occasion.
The event also witnessed the felicitations of all student achievers in sports and academics. The guests, along with the president, distributed various excellence awards. The university level rank holders were felicitated during the event. Faculty achievements were also honoured.
Prof B Ravi, spoke about the need to accept and adapt amidst the rapid growth in technology such as AI. He explained the transition education takes in current era with the real example. He spoke about the skills industry expects from institutions to impart to its students. “Top four skills involves creativity, collaboration, problem solving and communication, he said highlighting the importance of life long learning approach during the education journey. He said, “Find out what you love doing on life, what gives satisfaction in life and what gives you feeling of complete accomplishments.”
Addressing the gathering, Preetham Prince Pinto said that SJEC is one of the best institute in the region. He appreciated the management for the immense growth in infrastructure of the college. He highlighted the importance of being entrepreneurs, being bold, believing in self gives the real success. He shared his experience being entrepreneur, the challenges faced and his success journey.
In his presidential address, Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, the bishop of Mangalore congratulated the achievers for their outstanding achievements in academics and extracurricular activities. He said, “Humans are irreplaceable in our life and that is the benefit of growing together in the times of growing technology which seems to be a threat to humans. In the world of machines and technologies, it becomes important to have knowledge and wisdom of heart.”
Dr Shakila B, convener of the event delivered the vote of thanks. Fr Kenneth R Crasta, assistant director of SJEC, Dr Purushothama Chippar, vice principal, Rakesh Lobo, HR manager of the college and Dr Ravikantha Prabhu, convener of the programme were also present. Joysun D’Souza and Priya Miranda compered the formal programme.
A cultural extravaganza followed the formal event with the students displaying their wonderful music and dancing skills. The cultural programme was compered by Vinol Arun D’Souza, Leslie Kiran Rodrigues and Mave Lobo.
