Mangalore: Air Crash-affected Families to Hold Dharna at Airport

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Oct 17: A special meeting of Mangalore Air India Crash Victims Families Association was held in the city on Sunday October 16. The affected families decided to go in a procession to the local airport and hold dharna there, if the union ministry of aviation fails to properly vibe to their woes and take initiatives towards providing justice to the affected families.

It may be recalled that a delegation from the association had met union aviation minister, Vayalar Ravi, during his recent visit to the city a few days back. Ravi had invited the representatives of the association to come to New Delhi for a detailed dialogue on the issues concerned. The meeting was told that efforts to fix a date for the proposed meeting with the minister are being made.

Y Mohammed Beary, president of the association, informed the participants that Stephen Erickson was holding dialogues with the concerned agencies at the international level to ensure that the families of those who perished in last year’s Air India Express flight’s crash at the city airport get justifiable compensation in tune with Montreal Convention. The meeting authorized the president to fix a date to meet the minister and lead a delegation of representatives to New Delhi.

It also decided to go in a procession to the local airport and hold dharna there if the union minister fails to properly respond to their concerns. It was also decided to file an appeal in the Supreme Court, seeking vacation of a stay granted against the order of the Kerala High Court relating to payment of compensation to these families, granted by the second division bench of the High Court.

The meeting noted that only 62 of the 158 affected families have so far received compensation of varying degrees during the last 16 months since the crash. It was observed that the affected families were being made to bargain for the compensation, and persuaded to settle for a compensation that is not reasonable.  Taking note of the fact that a clear and transparent method is not being followed in settling compensation due to these families, association vice-president, Abbonu Maddadka, explained that the settlement sittings are not being held regularly.

Association office bearers, Habib Ullal, Varadaraj, Narayan, Hasanabba, and Abubakker were present at the meeting.

Passengers Asked to Report Early at Airport

A release from the airport here has asked the passengers to report at least 45 minutes before the scheduled departure time of their flights on Monday October 17.

The release added further that this has become necessary in view of the proposed protest envisaged at the airport premises by certain organizations today.

I agree with Jasie, BOYCOTT AIR INDIA, this is the only solution and this should be practised by all people staying out of India, not only Gulf coz (god help us)it might happen to anyone of us and our family will suffer for the same. AAI & Aviation Ministry should be involved and sued for this issue. I am not a political supporting person, but for this case the goverment should be responsible for not helping its people, this shows the weak point. Politians are spendin all their time in making money and settling their corruption cases, when will they work for the people of this nation. Whovever rules they just have time to do the corruption and the opposition to blame them and the same if the other rules vice versa. They are just busy in building their political strength and destroying others.
My heartily support for all the family members suffering their loss and now for the insurance coverage. This is forcing people from non-violance to violance.

What a shame, shame on politicians and the government. They bargain for the dead and eat their money as well. This is unfair and we have to raise a voice for this and have justice for the families of the crash victims.

Still Do you beleive political leaders Jude...? "Khane ke daant aur hotey hai aur dikhane ke kuch aur..." Sinc Honble Minister hails from Kerala "Resolution for Kerala in compensation is different and for others is different" You must understand political leaders dialogues are just for entertaining the crowd not any concrete resolution. Thank you

My understanding was that Rs 75 Lakhs per person was awarded by the courts and this was approved by the minister who said that his ministry would not challenge this judgement and that everyone would be paid this amount. This I thought was a fair judgement. I do not know what has transpired since then? Can anyone me?

Totally agree with Jerry Moras, Canada! Though the airfare is so high still they call it a budget airline!! There has to be a stronger word than 'Day light robbery'!! Families of crash victims, we are with you!

It is unfortnate, in India everyone makes money in the name of dead person. Whole issue has been mismanaged :
a)Affected families have not recd right bodies thier families (but burried someone else thiking thier relatives).
b). Wait for compensation for months (may few years) from Air India and thier agencies.
c). Affected families needs to beg from airlines, agencies court and even to int'l level.

    Shame on you guys !!

I'm not sure if I'm dead how many will make out of me. Hence, should I pay such huge air tickets fare to airlines - which covers, surcharge, handling charge, user fees, insurnace so on and on....??? I think it's a day light robery.
