Mangalore: Police Martyrs' Day: Sacrifice of 636 Officers Recalled

Mangalore, Oct 21: Under the joint aegis of city police commissionerate and DK district police, the Police Martyrs’ Day was observed at the district Armed Reserve Police office ground here on Friday October 21.
From October 21, 2010 to October 21, 2011 there were 636 police martyrs across the country including 10 policemen from Karnataka state who sacrificed their lives in a bid to safeguard the people.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Dr Channappa Gowda said that there have been always negative comments about the work of Government offices or departments. Lack of facilities to the policemen is still a matter to be resolved, he noted. Health, shelter among other basic facilities should be made available to the policemen at ease, he opined.
Vice-chancellor of Mangalore University Prof T C Shivashankar Moorthy said that the people in society are leading peaceful days and the credit must go to the police force. Both education and police department are equally important as they uphold the healthy society forever, he added.
The police flag was hoisted to the half mast after three rounds of gun shots by the police.
Alok Mohan, IGP Western range, MLC Ganesh Karnik, SP Laburam, ZP CEO Dr K N Vijayprakash, additional SP Prabhakar, KSRP Commander Ramadas Gowda, Homeguard Commander Nidarsh Hegde, NMPT vice president T S N Moorthy and Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh among others were present. Lennet Castelino, head constable compered the programme.
