Bangalore: State Rajyotsava Awards Announced - Only 50 Chosen

Bangalore, Oct 30: The list of Rajyotsava Awardees for the year 2011 is out. Unlike previous years when the names would go into hundreds, this year, the 56th Rajyotsava Awards will be conferred on only 50 achievers from various fields.
The awards will be presented on November 1 on the occasion of Karnataka Rajyotsava in the state capital. Each award will comprise a citation, cash prize of Rs one lac and a 20 gram gold medal, said Kannada and Culture department minister Govind Karjol here on Sunday October 30.

In the field of journalism, the awardees are Pratap Simha (Kannada Prabha), K N Tilak Kumar (Prajavani), Jagadish Maniyani (ETV), G S Kumar (Times of India), and Manjunath Bhat (Samyukta Karnataka).
H Phalguna, Dr Balachandra Nakod, Veerabhadrappa Sali, Shankar Binnala, and Ganesh Puttur have been chosen in the field of music, while Prof Aravind Malagatti Bijapur has been chosen for literature, Harish Hande for science, Kunjalu Ramakrishna Nayak for Yakshagana.
The Rajyotsava award for television and cinema will go to K Shivarudraiah, Sarigama Viji, A R Raju and others, while in sports, the award will be conferred on Tejaswinibai, Ramesh Teekaram, and others.
Amjad Khan, Hassan, Shantivana Trust, Dharmasthala, and others have been chosen in the field of social work.
Among other awardees are Aikala Harish Shetty, Ambali Rajeshwari, K Nagaraj, Shanthinatha Dibbada and others.

Udupi, Oct 30: Kunjalu Ramakrishna, veteran Badagutittu Yakshagana artiste of four decades, has bagged the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award.
Ramakrishna has been suffering from prolonged illness over the past 12 years. He enthralled the audience with his unique style of Yakshagana as a comedy artiste.
He was mentored by Veerabhadra Nayak and inspired by comedian Koragappadas to join Yakshagana. Ramakrishna served in the touring troupe of Mandarti Yakshagna Mela when he retired.
Son of Padmanabha and Sharada Nayak, he was felicitated by local social welfare and voluntary organizations for his contributions to Yakshagana.
