Petrol Prices Hiked by Rs 1.80 a Litre

New Delhi, Nov 3 (PTI): Oil companies today yet again hiked petrol prices by Rs 1.80 per litre to offset the fall in rupee that has made imports of crude costlier.

After today's increase, petrol in Delhi will cost Rs 68.64 a litre. The rates will vary in other cities according to local levies.

This is the second hike in petrol prices in less than two months and it came on a day when the food inflation rose "dangerously" to 12.21 per cent for the week that ended on October 22.

State-owned oil firms Indian Oil, Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum had earlier hiked petrol prices by Rs3.14 a litre on September 16 when the rupee was ruling at about 48 to a US dollar. The local currency has depreciated further. The rupee today closed at 49.14/15 against the American currency.

The government had in June last year deregulated or freed petrol from all price controls but the retail rates have not moved in line with cost as high inflation rate forced the oil companies to seek 'advice' from parent oil ministry before revising rates.

Just now I saw breaking news in the TV that the Government is contemplating roll back of Petrol price in view of UPA constituant Mamata's threat to quit UPA.She is really the leader of the poor class and deserves toe commended for her straight/bold decisions.

I was expecting our CM Hasmukh Gowda anouncing any concession on locals taxes to contain the petrol price like like anounced by Mamata last time in Bengal. But in Karnataka who is bothered for the people. They themselves are in lurch.

Someone is lying when they announce that petrol prices have been "deregulated" by the government. In that case the prices should go up when the crude oil prices increase and go down when the crude oil prices decrease. But in the past couple of years we have seen over a dozen increases but no decreases ... Something is not right here.

It seems compared to other States
in Karnataka State petrol price is highest .. at least karnataka state government should think of reversing some tax on it so that at least some burden will come down to the middle class people

There should be strict laws like Hong kong to control petrol consumption. Those private vehicles want to run 365 days a year should pay yearly Rs 12000 to 20000 extra to get permit and their number plates should be coloured to distinguish from the rest. Other cars should run according to number plates.Odd number plate cars should run on odd dates ( eg 1,3,5,7....) Even number cars should run on even dates(eg 2,4,,6,8.......)

Sunday and public holiday should be open for all.) then petrol price can be brought down to Rs 40 to 45. Also it will reduce the polution . Those who are violating the rule should be fined. In emergency a day or two permit can be obtained.Ministers and politicians should avoid using helicopters and flights when they travel domestically. Now the communication is so advanced so that ministers can communicate easily.Bring back the black money to India

Everything is stage managed and window dressed here! Not to speak of inflation statistics, WPI Index and the like- just a case of plain statistical jugglery this with the common man barely able to survive on the streets!Remember Montek singh's Rs 32 a day fiasco!! Time I think is ripe for a revolution of sorts...

LAst time whne the petrol price was hiked we received the word from our robot PM that this will be the last time for the year. So does it mean that when the hike happened that will be the end of year for our UPA Govt? I think year is started in nov for our So called peole friedly UPA. I think if the rates again hiked no surprice. Because our UPA govt 12 months might be equal to 1 Month and they will do the hike once again. and again they will say that this will be the last hike for the year.. HATS OFF UPA.. SONIA KI JAI HO

The fuel prices are tied to the Crude price and the Rupee-Dolor conversion rate. Crude is a commodity and the price of commodity is based on supply/demand. UPA nor NDA no USA can do anything about this problem except "us", the consumers. Sure, we can subsidize the fuel but that would result in borrowing money to buy crude at a higher rate and end-up paying interest on the borrowed money. This will also increase our national debt which will be borne by "us". Time to stop the corruption in our distribution system (LPG, kerosene) which will eliminate the waste and thus reduce the subsidy burden and ultimately the fuel cost (I doubt it though).

They should slowly remove subsidy on l p gas which is anyway ending mostly in blackmarket and then petrol price can be brought to international price of 55 rs.

If the rupee gains, will the oil companies reduce the fuel price?
    This is totally unscientific method.

It is ridiculous that decision of raising the fuel price lies in Oil Companies hand. The UPA Govt is not bothered about common man.

Petrol prices hike very often, population grow rapidly and vehicles multiply on roads but public transport can’t provide adequate services to the increasing crowd. They move people like goods, materials or items (but certainly not as human beings). Unless we implement a concept change in our land transport by breaking the evolution of ages, we still have to face a tough situation ahead. How long can we ignore an excellent opportunity which can save 80% of fuel energy or multiply the capacity to four to five times of the existing vehicles?

Why we start our vehicles from the standstill position while we have the option to move naturally with a slight style change? We have gracefully accepted the telecom revolution but why can’t we welcome a land transport revolution for multiple benefits? Let us not talk only about the problem but also think and consider the solution.

This unscientific and uneven increases in the fossil fuel is enough for UPA to unseat year 2014 General elections.Apart from that UPA simply either not caring or sleeping to do this nonsense.India stands highest priced petro- products in the world.Even country like B.desh Pakistan providing fuels far less then our price.Central and state govt need to relinquish it's excise levies considerably. This is the height of foolishness of UPA.Increase price further lead to inflation which in turn slows our growth rate.
