Mangalore, Nov 19: "Under constitutional rights, we have the freedom to practice Madrasa schooling for Muslim students and the state government has no right to interfere in the issue. We don’t agree with anything decided by the government about Madrasa teachings," asserted Abbas Darimi, president, SKSSF.

He was addressing a protest against the state government's interference in the Islamic teaching system staged in front of the DC’s office here on Saturday November 19.

The move by the government to decide the syllabus and the text books, with the guidance of Islamic experts, was proposed after a clash in the community took place over the issue.

Hyder Darimi, Kalladka, addressing the gathering, said that there is an accusation that Madarasa education is based on terrorism. Rubbishing this claim, he stressed that Madrasa system was practiced during the time of Prophet Mohammed to foster harmony among the people and teach them to accept people of other religions openly. The system continues to preach and teach the same even today, he added.

"Since pre-independence days, this type of teaching has existed and in 1951 the Kerala Islam Religion Teaching Board was formed. But these days a lot of problems are coming up about the syllabus and text books,” said Dharimi.

Protestors in huge numbers gathered with placards. A memorandum was submitted to the DC urging favorable action in this regard.

T M Shahid, Majid Suralpadi, Abdul Khader Darimi and Aziz Darimi were also present.

Mr. Mohan, there is a saying that Jinke Ghar Shishe ke hote hain. Wo dusro ke ghar par phatthar nahin mara karte!
Give respect to every religion if not you are showcasing your personality as bad in your religiously upbringing.
    Don’t fish over troubled waters.
I feel there should be a revolutionary change in the Madrasa teaching. All the Madrasas should get them converted into primary schools and teach state syllabus English medium of education plus Islamic studies in them. By this you can hit two birds in one stone. Good luck!

One one hand they want to carry on madrassa studies which does not give them any skills. On the other hand they want 50% reservations from the government but do not want the government to have a say in the curriculam. And they do not have the requisite education to perform the task. The syllabus of the madrassa is left to whomsoever and his interpretation of Islam and what do we get in the end - a product that has to turn to unethical means to make a living. Stop this nonsense and let our brethren decide for themselves so that we can progress with our great country.

Madrasa should be reformed up to the modern standard this should not be treated as anti-Islamic conspiracy. There is a great need to bridge the gap between the religious education and the job economy. Its syllabus should be covering such issues as child psychology, pedagogy, and basic ‘modern’ subjects such as Economics, Sociology, Political Science, Geography, International Relations, Elementary Science and so on. Leaders of all school of thought required to sit together to ponder above issues.

    Good comments from Mr. Ismail.
Since there was a clash in the same community regarding the syllabus, govt poked its nose. So why we have to blame the govt?

    Dear neil, uk

The type of talibans you are talking about are not coming out from madrasas. They are coming from RSS teachings who beating your people publicly and attacking places of worship in the name of conversion.

You are advising others to learn religion from parents then why you teach Bible at schools??

    Just think about it!

I dont mind they teaching islamic teachings, but they must pracice what is witten. In saudi arabia they stone the people who committed rape and murder. Let them adopt it everyting in to their community. They are not following government law or their own religious laws. When you speak about government law they speak about their religion, when you speak about their religion they speak about the governments law. They take government law granted for granted and religious teaching for their own benefits.

Government should not interfere in religious issues.
Any conflict or objectionable item that may jeopardize coexistence with other communities or national interest should be solved amicably with dialogue.

Govt contemplated thinking of Madrasa education to be under the body of independent Karnataka board rather than from Kerala. My understanding is that through out DK/UDUPI and beyond two sections of Sunnis fighting for their own syllabubs to be followed in madrasa which brought street fight among ourselves.I strongly feels that if govt tried to interfere in this matter that is merely on law and order point of view. How many AP/EK sections of people facing court marshal/case over the tug of war of trivial issue ! My humble request for everybody concerned is that kindly set our house in order and then take on govt move.
