Mangalore, Nov 21: After an auto rickshaw carrying people attending a marriage function fell into a roadside gorge, an infant lost his life, while two boys suffered serious injuries. The accident occurred at Mittakody in Kurnad village in Bantwal taluk.

Reportedly, the driver was trying to avoid pot holes, when one of the wheels of his auto rickshaw went crossed the edge of the road, resulting in the 20-feet steep fall. The deceased has been identified as seven-month-old Shaqir, while the injured are Shamir (5), and Asmeer (7). Both of them were admitted into a hospital in Deralakatte. The other occupants of the auto rickshaw including its driver, escaped with minor injuries.

The three children, along with two women and men, had boarded the ill-fated auto rickshaw at Elyarpadavu. They were to attend a marriage in Bollaru. The people feel that recklessness and over-speeding on the part of the driver caused the accident.

A case was registered against the driver at Konaje police station.
