Udupi, Nov 24: Nandikoor Janajagruti Samiti, which has been vehemently opposing Udupi Power Corporation Ltd’s thermal power plant at Nandkoor near Padubidri, has termed claims of some people’s representatives that they were stopped from airing their views about the project at a meeting convened for the purpose, as a bundle of lies. In a statement, jayant Kumar, secretary of the Samiti, said that the statement of these people that the meeting held at the office of the district deputy commissioner was one-sided and undemocratic, is baseless.

Referring to the petition handed over by some people’s representatives to the deputy commissioner, saying that they were not allowed to express their opinions at the meeting held to enable people to come up with their opinions about UPCL, Kumar pointed out that seven experts appointed by the government, deputy commissioner, and media persons were present at the said meeting. “56 persons gave their complaints orally, while 1,026 have filed written complaints against the project. Y B Ramakrishna, president of the Samiti and Karnataka Biofuel Workforce, has said that the meeting was peaceful,” he added.

In the meanwhile, Rata Sangha district president, Vijay Kumar Hegde, through a press statement, has demanded resignation from the people’s representatives who have expressed favourable views about UPCL by overlooking tribulations of the people. He stressed that these people should own moral responsibility for deserting the people who elected them, and vacate their posts immediately.
