Mangaluru: St Agnes School (CBSE) celebrates legacy of non-violence and truth

Mangaluru, Oct 1: St Agnes School (CBSE) marked the 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2, with heartfelt reverence, honouring his enduring principles of truth, non-violence, and service.

The celebration commenced with a floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, led by chief guest Pradeep Misquith, alongside principal Sr Maria Sarika A C, vice-principal Sr Meena Fernandes, PTEC vice-president Liston, Sr Reshma D'Souza, and head girl Joanna Pereira.

An interfaith prayer service set a reflective tone, featuring students reciting passages from the Holy Bible, Quran, and Bhagavad Gita, which underscored values of compassion, empathy, discipline, and selfless service. This was followed by a captivating welcome dance and a dramatic presentation that vividly illustrated Gandhi's inspiring legacy, bringing to life his principles of non-violence, truth, and self-discipline.

The school took great pride in honouring exceptional students, including Reishan Maria Fernandes, who shone in national-level spell bee competitions. Krithi was recognised for her outstanding performance in the CBSE-conducted skating competition, securing a spot at the national level. Adwika was acknowledged for her selection in the cluster-level athletics competition, representing the institution at the national stage. Furthermore, Cynel Jessica from grade V received accolades for her achievements in the young model event organised by the Sizzling Guys Organization. Their remarkable accomplishments truly elevate our institution’s reputation.

In alignment with Gandhi’s teachings, a cleanliness initiative was organised, bringing together students and teachers to beautify the school grounds while highlighting the significance of maintaining cleanliness in the surroundings.

Pradeep Misquith, a respected member of the Parent-Teacher Association and IT manager at Cognizant, delivered an inspiring speech that underscored Gandhi’s transformative values. He encouraged students to embrace truth, non-violence, and service, urging them to pursue clear objectives in life. His heartfelt message inspired students to embody Gandhi’s legacy, fostering compassion, responsibility, and civic engagement for a better India.

Principal Sr Maria Sarika A C emphasised that the younger generation holds the potential to cultivate a society founded on empathy, integrity, and selfless service. She commended students from grades 10C and 7B for their exceptional achievements.

The event was expertly hosted by Cheryl Sarah Pinto and Sumaiya, creating an engaging atmosphere for all those present. Ahana S Amin opened the celebration with a warm welcome address that set a positive tone, while Adline graciously proposed the vote of thanks, expressing sincere appreciation to students, staff, and distinguished guests. The programme concluded with the rendition of national anthem.
