Mangalore, Dec 8: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee secretary, Ivan D’Souza, blamed the district in-charge minister and deputy commissioner, of failing to take steps to stop the pipeline that is being laid surreptitiously across River Netravati in Netravati Bridge region. He said that the silence of the district in-charge minister over the issue smacks of ulterior motives.

He was addressing the protestors, who had gathered on Wednesday December 7 on the bank of River Netravati at Jappinamogru Kadekar, to demand stoppage of illegal pipeline that has been laid over Netravati River at the spot. They noted that both the deputy commissioner and tahsildar, during their visits to the spot, had confirmed that they had given permission to this work, and the environment department had also termed the pipeline as detrimental to environment. Noting that the pipeline is continued to be laid, they demanded for its immediate removal.

City corporator, Nagendra Kumar, who led the protestors, accused the deputy commissioner, N S Channappa Gowda, of failing to provie clear information about the pipeline. He accused the deputy commissioner and tahsildar of being hand in glove with the company which has been erecting this pipeline. He warned the district administration that it will be held solely responsible for untoward incident which may occur by reason of their failure to stop this work.
Youth Congress district president, Muthun Rai, youth Congress leader, Pravinchandra Alva, corporators, Appi, Vijayalakshmi, and Mamata Shenoy, and several local Congress leaders were present.
