His body of work includes over 200 films, and his career was a testament to the evolution of Kannada cinema during the 1980s and 1990s.
Born in 1932 in Channapatna, Thimmaiah hailed from a humble farming family. His early life was marked by struggles, but he remained determined to pursue his education. He worked as a surveyor before making his way into the world of cinema. Interestingly, his entry into acting was almost accidental.
Thimmaiah was convinced by a director to take up a role in which he portrayed an educated, well-spoken character. This turned out to be a turning point in his life, and his natural flair for acting was quickly recognised.
His first major break came when he was cast alongside Kannada cinema’s legendary actor Dr Rajkumar. Thimmaiah’s performance in his early roles was so well-received that it paved the way for him to work with a variety of prominent actors and directors. Though Thimmaiah’s career was most prominent during the 1980s and 1990s, he remained a respected figure in the industry even in his later years. As the years passed and the industry evolved, Thimmaiah gradually withdrew from active acting, focusing on his personal life and health.
