Bangalore, Dec 20: Students of Standards V to VIII in all Government-run schools in Karnataka need to brace up for studying in new syllabus from the academic year 2012-13.

The new syllabus will be introduced for students studying Standards V and VIII in all government run schools from next academic, Primary and Secondary Education Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri announced in Bangalore on Tuesday

Students of Standards IX to X would have to study in the new syllabus from the academic year 2013-14 onwards, he said.

Course materials on the lines of CBSE are being finalised by resource persons as per the National Curriculum Framework 2005.

Extensive deliberations had been held with former education ministers, experts and NGOs on updating content in tune with present times.

To keep abreast of modern developments in all fields, changes have been in the textbooks for the benefit of students, the minister said.

CBSE syllabus would be introduced in the science stream (physics, chemistry, maths, biology) in Pre-University Course (PUC) in Karnataka from the next academic year, Kageri, said.

First year PUC students (XI standard) would have CBSE syllabus from 2012-13 and continue with it next year (XII standard). Those who are in second PUC (XII standard) next year (2012-13) would, however, have state syllabus, he told reporters here.

“The aim is to see that the students are able to compete in all - India exams effectively,” the minister said.

Kageri also disclosed that the Government would open a security press at Peenya here in the next financial year to prevent leakage of question papers.

It is good to have Karnataka align with All India education system. It should also apply to private schools as well. The state teachers should be properly trained. Syllabus should be similar but in the language of choise.

its a future thought. although the students from state syllabus will find it damn hard to cope up with it, in a decade or so people will look at it as a great educational reform, although late, but finally effective.
