Mangalore, Dec 23: The members of Students’ Federation of India (SFI), DK district committee organized an event named ‘Zilla Panchayath Chalo’ demanding to strengthen the government schools in the state.

Addressing the gathering, Manoj Vamanjoor, the district secretary, said that due to the unscientific and business oriented education system adopted by the state and central government, poor students are deprived of quality education.

Due to the policies of the English medium schools, residential schools are rising in numbers. Some are obtaining the permission to run Kannada medium schools, but continue to teach in English thereafter. Private schools are permitted to open very close to government schools thereby the government indirectly is supporting weakening of government Kannada medium schools. Lack of competence to fight with private English medium schools, government schools are facing the problem of closure, he pointed out.

The members demanded the government to withhold the order of closure of government Kannda medium schools. The schools which are already closed should be re opened. Unauthorized English medium schools should be closed.

Facilities like faculty, building, play ground, toilets, potable water, should be availed by the government in the Kannada medium schools, they urged. Nithin Kutthar, district president was also present on the occasion.

All children should be educated in both Kannada and English language but English should be made primary language only rich people and ministers kids get a chance to study in English medium. All should have equal opportunities.I respect Kanndaa as much as Englih Language.

4TH STD. THAT TOO IN A PRIVATE KANNADA MEDIUM SCHOOL RUNNING UNDER A TRUST LAST 40YEARS BACK. CAN ANY BODY IMMAGINE THE REALITY BUT THIS IS TRUE STORY OF A REPUTED SCHOOL IN THE PREMISES OF A ISWAR TEMPLE WHERE NOW FREE MEALS PROVIDED TO THE STUDENTS BY THE TEMPLE. IF SO WHY NOT GOVT. WHICH WANTS INCOME OF HINDU TEMPLES BUT READY TO USE THE SAME FOR EDUCATION. SOCIETY/PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT IN THIS AREA IS VERY
MUCH NEEDED TO SAFEGUARD RIGHT TO HAVE EDUCATION OF EVERY CHILD.

Why not the Govt schools compete with Private schools? What private schools teaching, as you also teach same syllabus to your students and with kannada also, then you see all students will come and joined to govt school.

I support their movement. Now a days education is becoming business to the people.

I had paid only Rs 44000(11K x 4) as college fee for my 4 years B.E degree.

In most of the schools in Bangalore, LKG admission fee is Rs 50000 for 1 year! I am confused if they are giving any technical/management education for 4-5 year old kid. And after paying that much students have to go for tuition for learning!

I remember we had paid only Rs 10.75 for my admission for 1st standard in Govt school, 20 years back..

Govt should improve the educational infrastructure in the state. Good English should be taught from the class 1. The education system of DK/Udupi/NK should be replicated in all districts of the state..

(In many other districts teachers will be absent in Govt schools).
