Vasco police arrest man for illegal possession of narcotics

Vasco, Jan 13: In a significant crackdown on drug-related activities, Vasco Police arrested a 24-year-old man near Joggers Park, Chicalim, for illegal possession of narcotics on Sunday morning.

The accused, identified as Khajappa Gaikwad, a resident of Vaddem, Vasco, was apprehended during a routine patrol between 6:15 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. Police reports indicate that Gaikwad was in possession of 1.02 kg of dry, greenish stems, flowering, and fruiting substances suspected to be ganja. The confiscated narcotics are estimated to be worth Rs 1,00,000.

The arrest, carried out by PSI Prisly Carvalho, followed all supreme court guidelines. The accused was formally taken into custody at 10:50 a.m. and has been charged under Section 20(A)(ii)(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

The investigation, supervised by PI Kapil Nayak and guided by Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam, is now focused on uncovering the source of the narcotics and any possible connections to larger drug distribution networks.

The police have urged the public to report any suspicious activities in their localities as part of their ongoing efforts to combat the drug menace in the region.
