Goa, Jan 24: After a gap of two years, Goa is set to dazzle the nation with its stunning tableau at the Republic Day Parade 2025 on January 26 at Kartavya Path, New Delhi. The tableau, themed 'Swarnim Bharat, Virasat aur Vikas' (Golden India, heritage, and development), showcases the state’s cultural richness, heritage, and progress.
A dedicated team of over 40 artisans and artists has been working tirelessly since November 2024 to bring the vibrant float to life.
Speaking to Gomantak Time Digital, Sushant Khedekar, who is leading the project along with Purnanand Paidarkar, said, “Our focus is on Kaavi art, culture, and tourism. Kaavi art, one of Goa’s oldest traditional art forms, was also mentioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Mann Ki Baat.”
The tableau begins with a depiction of a Goan woman holding a divja (traditional lamp) adorned with intricate Kaavi art, symbolizing the essence of Goan culture. A model of the historic Aguada Lighthouse, one of Asia's oldest, also finds pride of place on the float.
Highlighting the significance of this art, Sagar Naik Mule, a talented Kaavi artist, carried Goa's tambdi maati (red mud) to Delhi to lend authenticity to his craft. “This is an opportunity to showcase Kaavi art to the nation. I hope it encourages Goans to learn and preserve this art form while finding a livelihood through it,” Sagar shared.
Music, an integral part of Goan culture, takes center stage in the performance. A special 49-second song titled Ya Ya Goyaan Ya, composed by Dr. Saish Deshpande, blends traditional Ovi tunes with modern music. "We incorporated Goan folk instruments like dhols, shehnai, and maand music alongside western instruments to represent Goa’s evolution," said Saish.
The song is sung by Archana Shinde, Queenie Fernandes, Mukesh Ghatwal, and Saish himself. The choreography by Nishad and costumes designed by Sangeeta and Avani Khedekar promise a visual treat, with the performance led by Dinesh Priolkar.
A host of talented individuals contributed to the creation of the tableau, including Pandurang Shet, Suresh Varekar, Vallabh Chari, Pralhad Shilkar, and many others. The production in-charge, Purnannad Paidarkar, ensured smooth execution.
After the parade, the Goa tableau will be on display at the Red Fort during the Bharat Parv celebration from January 26 to 31, offering the public a closer look at its artistic brilliance.
This year’s tableau is not just a visual masterpiece but a heartfelt representation of Goa’s heritage and aspirations, aiming to leave an indelible mark on the national stage.
