Bhopal, Feb 19: A series of devastating road accidents across Madhya Pradesh have resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries, according to officials on Wednesday.
In one incident, a speeding passenger bus collided with a tractor-trolley in Morena’s Kailaras police station area, killing two people and injuring eight others. The crash occurred near Sant Nagar on the national highway as people were returning home on the tractor. The bus, coming from Sabalgarh, rammed into the tractor, causing a chaotic scene. Passers-by promptly alerted the authorities and assisted in rescuing the passengers. Fortunately, none of the bus passengers were injured. The injured were rushed to Kailaras government hospital.

In another tragic accident, a couple from Maharashtra died when their car crashed into a stationary truck near Naraura village in Maihar tehsil around 1:40 p.m. on Wednesday. The couple and their family had been returning to Mumbai from the Mahakumbh at Prayagraj. The victims—Sunil Kumar Upadhyay (62), Sarojita Upadhyay (56), and their daughter Sneha Upadhyay (28)—died at the scene. Three other family members sustained serious injuries and were hospitalized.
In Dewas district, a collision between a car and a truck on the Sandalpur-Nasrullaganj road led to the tragic deaths of a couple, Prashant and Hemal, from Mumbai. The couple, traveling to Omkareshwar Darshan after attending the Mahakumbh, was seated in the back of the car and died instantly. Three other family members were injured and taken to a hospital in Indore.
In a fourth incident, a bus carrying Mahakumbh devotees from Jagdalpur (Chhattisgarh) to Prayagraj crashed into a stationary truck near the Chhattisgarh-Madhya Pradesh border late on Tuesday night, resulting in the death of a bus helper and injuring 22 others. Police from both Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh responded swiftly to the scene. The deceased’s body was sent for post-mortem, and the injured were admitted to Anuppur district hospital.
These incidents highlight the growing concern over road safety, as families and pilgrims in the state face heartbreaking losses during their travels.
