Taapsee Pannu reacts to ‘Sasti Copy’ remark, talks about Bollywood biases

Mumbai, Feb 22: Actress Taapsee Pannu has once again addressed the long-standing controversy surrounding Rangoli Chandel’s remark calling her Kangana Ranaut’s "sasti copy." Responding with her signature grace, Taapsee stated that if being "sasti" means earning less than Kangana, she is fine with it. She also acknowledged that being compared to a talented actress like Kangana is not an insult.

Speaking to ABP News, Taapsee emphasized that a person’s words reflect their upbringing and values. "I can never say such things about any woman who has carved her own journey," she said.

The controversy dates back to 2019 when Taapsee praised the trailer of Judgementall Hai Kya without mentioning Kangana’s name. This led Kangana’s sister Rangoli to accuse her of copying Kangana without giving due credit. Rangoli later deleted the post.

In the same interview, Taapsee also spoke about challenges in Bollywood, highlighting how women-centric films often receive smaller budgets and limited theatrical releases. She stressed that both men and women in the industry must work towards breaking these biases.

She further pointed out the increasing influence of social media on casting decisions, stating that actors should be judged on talent rather than their online following. "Filmmakers should focus on skill and personality rather than social media metrics," she added.

On the work front, Taapsee is set to reunite with director Anubhav Sinha for their third collaboration after Mulk and Thappad. She was last seen in Dunki (2023) alongside Shah Rukh Khan.
